ANATOMY OF TILAPIA FISH

Tilapia fish is a bony fish.It has a streamlined body for easy movement.The body is covered by scales,which protects the fish from harm.the body of the fish is divided into the head,the trunk and tail.
THE HEAD
The head starts from the tip of the mouth to the end of the operculum..Upper and lower jaw bound the terminal mouth.Inside the mouth are the teeth.The head bears a pair of eyes for sight,a pair of nostrils for smell and not for breathing.It also bears a pair of opercula which covers the gills used for respiration
THE TRUNK
The trunk starts from the end of the operculum to the anus.The trunk bears a number of fins,which includes pectorals and pelvic fins,which are paired fins,the dorsal fin,the ventral fin and caudal fin.The fins are used for swimming and balancing.
THE GILLS
The gills are used for respiration.On either side of the head lies a fish a gill chamber containing four gills that overlap.Each gill is a red comb like structure supported on a curved bony bar known as gill arch.Each gill consists of two rows of soft,slender structures known as gill filaments.
